ABOUT TUSCARORA TRAINING CENTER

At Tuscarora Training Center, we learn new techniques using a combination of traditional drilling, flow/play wrestling, games, and live training. The focus in training is understanding concepts more than specific techniques. If an athlete can grasp positions conceptually, he or she will develop creativity and a less rigid style than someone who drills the same positions repeatedly. 

 

Developing the fundamentals of positions is the beginning for any wrestler or jiu jitsu player. Adding positional live training, live training with constraints, and sports-specific strength and conditioning all add to the athletes’ potential for success.

Hey I'm Kaj, pronounced "Kai" without the J . People always say it wrong. 

I'm entering my junior year of high school, and wrestling is my main sport. I love strength training and pushing my body to its limit to see what I'm capable of. I think this gym will bring a sense of community to local athletes. I have three younger sisters, and have been doing jiu jitsu since I was 5, so I have lots of experience mentoring other younger kids. 

Placing at states in the next two years is my dream, along with helping others on my team to do the same. We need each other to be our best.

Hi, I'm Brooks. After wrestling in college and starting a family and a farm, I returned to my passion for grappling.

 

I started training traditional gi BJJ when my son was 5 and could go to his first class. I added in nogi BJJ soon after, and started teaching wrestling for nogi jiu jitsu as a blue belt. Four belts and many tournament wins later, I became a black belt in 2018 under Marcelo Mattos, a Carlson Gracie school owner in Carlisle.

 

Tuscarora Training Center is the result of a few seasons of teaching BJJ in my barn. Once our feet froze to the floor and the barn got too crowded, it was time to make the move to an official gym. TTC combines my love of strength training with grappling. We start everyone with a wrestling foundation and teach a combination of BJJ and submission wrestling. This style is the most up-to-date, modern form of jiu jitsu being used in competitions around the country and internationally.

Hey I'm Carter. Wrestling in high school was a great joy and challenge. Now that I've graduated, it's a dream come true that there is a way to continue wrestling beyond high school. I want adults to see that it's still possible to train hard, learn new techniques, and excel no matter their age.

I am excited to work with Brooks to create this local club. I am experienced at working with kids, and love helping kids develop their skills to the max of their potential.

Strength training is something that everybody can benefit from. I love showing people how it's possible to change their body for the better. 

I am dedicated to helping students achieve their goals, both on and off the mat.
